German Words in Russian Language

I maintain that Russian is basically German with extra sauce. To prove my point, here’s words that were stolen from German:

German

Russian

English

Note

Apfelsine

Апельсин

Orange

Not so used anymore in German, the term meant Apple from China/Sina

Buchhalter

Бухгалтер

Bookkeeper

Kartoffel

Картофель

Potatoe

German also has Erdapfel (Earth-apple) just like the French pomme de terre

Rucksack

Рюкзак

Backpack

Funnily, brief-case in Russian is Портфель from the French portefeuille portefeuille (which nowadays itself means wallet, and brief-case is attaché, mallette, or colloquially sac.)

Gipskarton

Гипсокартон

Drywall

Grenze

Граница

Border

As in, border between countries

Extra mentions for my favourite Бутерброд: Sandwich, which is made from the German words butter and brot.
